Instagram Post: OG vs. Next Gen — Hurache-X Paddle Comparison

Check it out on Instagram.com/mattspickleball

In an Instagram post this week, I went head-to-head with two paddles from 11SIX24—the Hurache-X Control+ (which I’ve had for over 6 months and now consider the "OG") and the new Hurache-X Control Alpha 1. This Alpha 1 is next-gen, but not Gen 3. While details on its construction are slim, it shows good pop and power.

To really test these, I hit drives, dinks, and drops side-by-side, even switching hands to get a true feel for how they stack up on video. If you're curious about which paddle offers better control, power, and pop, watch the video. 🙃

Paddletek Bantam ALW-C 12.7mm and 14.3mm Review: Power Meets Precision

Some guy holding a Paddletek ALW 12.7 and 14.3

For the past few weeks, I had the pleasure of testing two newly refreshed paddles from Paddletek: the Bantam ALW-C 12.7mm and 14.3mm models, both priced at $249.99. Designed in collaboration with Anna Leigh Waters, the world’s #1 pickleball player, these paddles offer a mix of control, power, and precision that are hard to match.

Here’s a quick breakdown of both paddles:

  • Bantam ALW-C 12.7mm: Best for aggressive players, the 12.7mm delivers explosive power, especially during fast-paced volleys and hard drives. It’s perfect for advanced players who thrive on speed but need to be mindful of its smaller sweet spot for softer shots like resets and dinks.

  • Bantam ALW-C 14.3mm: A more balanced option, the 14.3mm provides a stable mix of power and control. With its thicker core, this paddle offers more forgiveness on off-center hits and is great for intermediate players who enjoy longer rallies and controlled kitchen play.

Key Highlights:

  • Power & Spin: Both paddles utilize Paddletek’s PT-700 unidirectional carbon fiber face, delivering impressive spin and power. The 12.7mm focuses on raw power, while the 14.3mm leans more toward control.

  • Control vs. Power: The 12.7mm favors players who like to hit hard and fast with a ton of pop, whereas the 14.3mm offers more stability and consistency, ideal for those who like to mix up their shots with finesse.

  • Durability & Performance: With Paddletek’s Bantam core technology, both paddles feel durable and built to withstand intense play.

Want to know which one suits your game? You can read my full review where I put these paddles to the test in various match scenarios. If you’re torn between power and control, I break down how these paddles compare to others on the market, such as the CRBN 2X and Ronbus Ripple.

Chorus Supercourt 16mm Review: Control and Precision at an Unbeatable Price

Looking for a paddle that offers precision and finesse? Enter the Chorus Supercourt 16mm, a control-focused paddle that’s ideal for players who prioritize shot placement over raw power. If you’re someone who thrives on keeping your shots tight and controlling the pace of the game, this paddle should be on your radar—especially at an accessible price point of $109.99 (even better with promo code “MPB”).

Key Highlights:

  • Control and Placement: With a 16mm core and raw carbon fiber face, the Supercourt excels in control. Dinks, resets, and soft shots all feel dialed in, allowing you to place the ball exactly where you want it.

  • Balanced Feel: Weighing in at around 7.8 oz, this paddle offers a balanced feel that makes it easy to maneuver, especially in fast-paced net exchanges. It’s not designed to blow you away with power, but it does offer just enough pop to keep you in control during offensive plays — without popping it up as much! 😃

  • Long Handle for Two-Handed Backhands: The 6.25-inch handle is perfect for tennis players transitioning to pickleball or those who favor a two-handed backhand. It provides added versatility without sacrificing comfort.

During my testing, the Supercourt stood out for its consistency and ability to make kitchen play feel effortless. It’s a reset machine. It may not have the explosive power of more aggressive paddles, but its precision makes it a go-to for control-focused players. And at under $100 with my code MPB, it’s hard to beat in terms of value for money.

PIKKL Hurricane Pro: 14mm vs. 16mm – Which is Right for You?

Just a quick reminder that I recently reviewed the PIKKL Hurricane Pro paddles, including the 14mm Tyra Black Edition and the 16mm model. Both paddles are designed for players who prioritize control and spin, with the 16mm offering more finesse for soft shots, while the 14mm adds a bit more speed for all-court play.

  • 16mm Paddle: Perfect for those who excel at the short game, focusing on dinks and resets.

  • 14mm Paddle: A faster, more versatile option with added mobility for aggressive players.

If control and spin are key to your game, these paddles might be exactly what you’re looking for!
